“The word Jyotish is a combination of two Sanskrit roots: Jyoti (light, radiance, the luminous principle) and Isha (lord, ruler, or governing intelligence), yielding the meaning “Lord of Light” or “The Science of the Celestial Lights.” The name itself reveals the foundational orientation of this discipline: it is not a system built on speculation but one grounded in the observation of light and its various manifestations as they move through the heavens and interact with life on earth.”
